Estimates indicate the disease afflict over 18 million Americans, and it is linked to cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. Typical symptoms are snoring and excessive sleepiness. Narcolepsy: A disease that exists in persons who uncontrollably fall asleep at inappropriate times. Restless Legs Syndrome: Characterized by leg movements occurring during sleep that are severe enough to cause a disruption in the quality of sleep. Insomnia: The inability to fall asleep normally. Insomnia can be classified as transient (short term), intermittent (on and off), and chronic (constant). |
